A Great Time to Come Back

It's been a while!

A couple of months ago, my domain name was set to expire. I had to reevaluate my online presence and whether or not Ace the Adventure should stick around in real time, and not just get cached away in some dark corner of the web. I couldn't let it go, and after nearly two and a half years, I knew it was time to come back.

So. Here I am. Hi!

So, what's happened in all this time since the last post?

We're still in the Netherlands. We moved again, but stayed within Tilburg after finding our own home. The experience taught me that my Dutch was certainly good enough to navigate our way through all the paperwork and that somehow, there is always something in your own home that could use a new coat of paint.

I completed a Master's degree. I've wanted to go back to school for a long time, and the opportunity presented itself at Tilburg University. I picked up some interesting skills that I wouldn't have expected (like statistics) and took a writing/content creation class that was particularly inspiring.

We've traveled. We managed to add a few more family trips around Europe and the US. Our opportunities to do so were more limited with the university and primary schools having different schedules, but we made the most of our time.

Our sweet Sebastian had a near-death experience. Our lovable black kitty, Sebastian, fell ill in the Fall of 2016. His paws and stomach swelled up without warning and he came close to kidney failure. We found an amazing vet's office in our new neighborhood, but they were stumped. They gave him antibiotics and steroids but weren't particularly hopeful, and we tried to prepare ourselves to say goodbye. And then Seb just... got better. They're still not sure what the problem was or how it righted itself, but we're thankful.

So, what's next?

I'm still working that part out. When I started this blog, life was going to change drastically with living in a new country and being surrounded by a new language. While there are still plenty of new and unexpected things that we come across, living as an expat and speaking a different language are just part of "normal" now. I'm still waiting to see which direction the content goes, but I don't plan on another long hiatus.

It's good to be back.

  1. Thank you for this update. I think it's very important to inform your readers about the situation with your location and activity. When you share so many getacademichelp things with your followers and they get used to your regular posts you have some obligations for them.

  2. Why we need to come back? If we create our future happy than we will never need to come back.... everyone should make plans for future. If every single person would make a plan then only few peoples will think to go back...
