I Dream of Tea

I enjoy a good cup of coffee, but lately, my heart belongs to tea. To me it's easier to sip on a nice big mug of tea, especially on a crappy day when I want to hole up for the day and work on something quietly. It's comforting.

It's hailing as I write this and it's looking to stay pretty grey for a good chunk of the day. We've had some fantastic weather lately, but it looks like everything is going back to "normal" spring weather in the Netherlands. I was already feeling pretty tired and grey skies haven't been helping me feel very motivated today. But a good cup of black tea with milk can put me right again.

Especially when it comes in my very adult-like mug with Scooby-Doo on it.

Do you have a go-to to bring you out of a funk on a grey day? Do you have something you do to motivate you when you're slowing down?

  1. Ugh this weather is getting me down too!! It's teasing me ... Sunny for two seconds, then pouring rain the next. I actually find the 'typical Dutch' weather so hard to deal with that I finally bought myself a daylight therapy lamp this winter and it has made a WORLD of a difference - it's definitely my go-to now! And if that doesn't work ... Endless episodes of Friends on the couch, or a jog if I'm not so far down the hole yet :p

  2. We are huge tea drinkers in our house, just yesterday we bought the 100 pack of earl grey and have I think 4 or 5 other kinds in the cupboard!

  3. Wow, I didn't know those lamps existed. I'm picturing in my head a heat lamp like you'd get for a turtle tank, but I'm pretty sure that's not what it actually looks like. Either way I could see myself curling up under one. And TV's a nice distraction, too, though I avoid running like the plague... =)

  4. Oh that all sounds delicious. I've got a couple of nice packs in the cabinet and the Lipton Yellow Tag was on an awesome sale last week. What's your spring weather like?

  6. Oooh! That lamp seems wonderful! My dutch hubby needs that. He hates 'typical dutch weather' more than me!

  7. The lamp is amazing!! It made suuuch a difference in the winter - I went from wanting to spend all of my time on the couch to actually wanting to take on projects, be creative, go to the gym ... I recommend it to everyone! You don't need to have seasonal affective disorder to benefit. You can buy them on bol.com for fairly cheap (mine was 70,-) or even get a prescription from a doctor, so then your verzekering should actually cover the costs.

  8. haha I actually don't know what a lamp for a turtle tank looks like! This lamp is pretty funny though, it's almost blindingly bright the first time, and so so white that it turns your entire room a different colour ... BUT it works like a miracle seriously. If it's grey out I turn it on for half an hour while I'm having breakfast or catching up on emails or even Skyping, and it makes all the difference :)

  9. Yea, you've convinced me - We need one. I told hubby about it last night and he agreed. He seriously goes into hibernation in the winter and slowly becomes an extra cushion on the couch. In the summer, the man barely sleeps and is so energetic. Maybe this will help!

  10. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am definitely a huge tea drinker. I recently fell in love with David's Tea - specifically their O'Canada tea, which is a rooibos tea flavored with maple syrup and caramel.
